Starting the Process

It has indeed been a while since I've written a blog entry. I am starting this one so that when I leave for my trip in January, more people will have the opportunity to keep up with what I'm up to. I still would love to get your personal e-mails and letters, but this is easier than telling everyone where we went, what we did, etc. I am going to try to keep this as a travel journal-- we'll see how well that goes with internet use and time constraints. I will try to be as faithful as I can.

It still hasn't become real to me yet-- the fact that on Jan. 15, I am leaving on a 4 month adventure. I have not been away from home for that long and I am used to relying on my dear mother for everything. I wonder how I will face the world without her keeping me in line. "Ashton, do you have your passport?" "Ashton, where's your ticket?" "Ashton, if you don't get a move on you are not going to make your train." Instead of her voice ringing, it will have to be my own. I am going to have to grow up, get it together and be responsible. I think it is a scary reality, but something that I need as I reach adulthood.
